Marketing. Advertising. Sell and buy. It’s all about the trade. We live in a world in which everything can be sold and bought. People could sell and buy things forever, well…it’s true that the payment method varied in time and space, but it was always about the price.
In our days we sell everything and we buy everything. We have no more limits. Products, services, emotions, feelings, religion, believes, dreams, love, sex, people. There is nothing in the world that doesn’t have a price. Well at least for some people.
Recently I went to a Church. I just wanted to light up a candle and say a little prayer for someone. When I got there I realized that I had no money on me because I had left home in such a hurry and with my mind set on something else that I forgot to take my wallet. You’d think the lady who sells the candles would have a little more compassion for a crying person who wants to light up a candle, but you’d be wrong. Dead wrong. Who the hell has compassion this days for another person? Are we so self interested and self centred? Are we so screwed up? And how the hell did we become like this? We made religion a marketing tool, a business. We made everything a business!! I find it hard to believe that two thousand and ten years ago when GOD “invented” and “invested in” the Church he thought about making profit. And what a profit!!! If GOD would get 1 % of the incomes of his religion he would be a freakin' billionaire.
Emotions and feelings are sold very often too. And at very low cost. We trade our souls and our feeling for a kiss, a touch, holding hands, glowing eyes, marriage, an embrace or for sex. It’s not about sharing anymore. It’s a you give - I take, I give - you take thing. We are so misguided that we cannot concept of giving something to someone without getting something else in return, without making a trade. And I wonder why is it so important to us to get something in return? Is it that we feel more complete or we just feel more powerful? Or maybe we just like to feel the rush, the thrill and the “I am high” thing for closing another deal for our business? Are we all trying to become sales managers of our own lives, bodies and souls?
Our bodies have become our own private shops. And like any shop manager we try to sell our merchandise as well as we can. Fancy clothes, stylish accessories, perfect hair and nails. We all branded ourselves as the new modern shops. And you’ll see which are the best shops just by looking at them.
Is this the world we’re supposed to live in? And will it get worst? The big question is how far are we willing to go. Do we have no more limits? No boundaries? No conscience what so ever? Have we crossed our own limits and are we speeding towards the worlds limits? And how about the ones who have reached their final limits? Where do they stand? Are we really sure this is the world we want to leave for our children?
